In Ihiala LGA, education is taken seriously. Ihiala people are very educated and they reside all over the world working professionally. In the 1960’s, 1970’s and early 1980’s, education system in Nigeria was very structured and educational resources were relatively adequate. Schools were maintained, teachers were well trained , resources and equipment’s were supplied to all the schools and buildings were regularly maintained.
Recently things have changed, Nigeria educational system is now choked with corruption. Schools are not maintained anymore, Teachers are not been paid regularly, disruption due to teachers strikes is rampant, schools buildings are left to decay and they are now death traps, teachers are less qualified, education is not free anymore and the whole educational system is now at a point of tipping over.
Our public schools are terrible, they are not an ideal place for learning as you can see from the pictures, the class rooms are in sorry state, our children do not have enough seats in the classrooms, some have to sit on a bare concrete floor during classes. Most classrooms have no ceilings under the roofs and thereby,
our children studies in a very hot class rooms with an average temperature of over 30°c.
85% of our public schools do not have good toilet facilities, Our children are still making use of the old pit toilets built in the 90s, while some toilets in the bush.
These Children are the future of our beloved community and for heath and safety reasons our kids shouldn’t be in such places.
We appeal to friends, brothers and sisters, home or in diaspora, everyone who loves the progress of our home (Ihiala LGA),
Anyone who is touched by the unsafe conditions of these children to join hands with us in making our public schools and health centres a better place.
